Title: Perticaia Winery: A Testament to Montefalco’s Rich Wine Heritage
Introduction
Nestled in the heart of Montefalco, a picturesque medieval town in the Umbria region of Italy, Perticaia Winery stands as a beacon of tradition and innovation.
Over the years, this renowned winery has carved a niche for itself in the world of fine wines, with a particular emphasis on the production of its exquisite Sagrantino.
In this article, we will delve into the rich history of Perticaia Winery, the diverse array of wines it offers, and the intricate art of crafting their flagship Sagrantino.
History
Winery was founded in 2000 by Guido Guardigli, an entrepreneur with a deep passion for viticulture and the winemaking traditions of Montefalco.
The name “Perticaia” hails from the Umbrian dialect and means “plow,” symbolizing the deep connection between the winery and its land. Perticaia’s vineyards, spanning over 16 hectares, are located in the rolling hills of Montefalco at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level.
This unique location, coupled with a strong commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices, has shaped Perticaia’s philosophy and approach to winemaking.
Anteprima Sagrantino

It was a pleasure to personally tour the winery as a guest of the consortium for the week celebrating Sagrantino – Anteprima Sagrantino.
I was welcomed at the winery with a glass of their sparkling Sagrantino rose-colored sparkling wine, as well as delicious cheese, olive oil, and bread.
For the next hour, Ricardo the winemaker showed me the vineyards and led a tasting in the winery tasting room.
