Pinot Grigio of Delle Venezie DOC
The Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC Conzorzio and the agency IEEM collaborated to present a fabulous tasting featuring 100 Pinot Grigio wines.
Leading a brilliant wine masterclass was the new director of Consorzio Tutela Vini DOC Delle Venezie, Nazareno Vicenzi, alongside Vinepair’s Tasting Director, the effervescent Keith Beavers.
Guests arrived at the luxurious new Royalton Hotel and ascended to the penthouse.
There, they were greeted with elegantly set tables adorned with nine empty wine glasses and blindfolds.
This playful introduction signified that the tasting would be conducted blind, allowing guests to experience each wine without prior knowledge of its origin in the Delle Venezie DOC region.

Mr. Vicenzi, the director of the consorzio and a local expert on the region’s terroir, captivated the audience with his vivid descriptions of the landscape.
His use of evocative language, such as “stones crushing together,” painted a vivid picture of the unique terroir of the Delle Venezie region.
With each description, he transported us to the vineyards, allowing us to visualize the rugged beauty of the land and understand its influence on the wines.
I also found myself drawn in by Keith Beavers’ “hip” style of describing wine and terroir. Mr.. Beaver’s ability to communicate the flavors and textures of the wine in a relatable manner helped guests understand what they were tasting, and how terroir, elevation, and other factors influenced that taste.
During the tasting, both Messrs Vicenzi and Beavers described the factors influencing each specific wine as it was tasted. Their commentary hinted at the diversity of the region and producer styles.
After the formal wine tasting, guests had the opportunity to explore a selection of over 100 Pinot Grigio wines from the region.
I positioned myself in a favorable spot to observe attendees inquiring about the wines. Everyone was energized by the tasting, excited about discovering this region on their next wine store visit.
Thanks to the organizers and the Consorzio Tutela Vini DOC Delle Venezie for a delightful tasting experience and introduction to an exhilarating new region.
