Wine Enthusiast Sip of South America

South American Wines

Wine Enthusiast

Wine Enthusiast magazine hosted its inaugural Sip of South America featuring 50 wineries from Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.

Every participating winery has received at least one 90+ rating from Wine Enthusiast, a “Best Buy” designation, or an “Editor’s Choice” selection.

Held in the flower-filled Georgia Room of the quaint Freehand Hotel, the event also featured South American bites created by chefs who have been inspired by this celebrated region.

Journalist Jessica Vargas, herself the descendent of Bolivian immigrants, led t he tastings of six iconic wines from the best wineries in South America. She is a great wine educator with a background in marketing, specializing in wine.

South American: A Land of Diversity

Ms. Vargas did a great job of telling the audience about the diversity of weather, altitude, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean (along with other factors like the Humboldt current) that is responsible for the concentrated flavor and racy acidity of the whites, and elegance of the reds.

A great afternoon voyage to South America and its wines.
